Cencora is buying 350 oncology prescribers for $2.4 billion. Its own 10-K says ten customers are 66 percent of its revenue.
October 25, 2026
On October 21, 2026, Cencora signed a definitive agreement to acquire American Oncology Network, a physician-led network of more than 350 oncology providers across 21 states, at an enterprise value of $2.4 billion. Cencora has been an investor in AON since 2020 and expects to pay about $1.7 billion to take its stake to 75 percent. It is the third physician-practice platform the distributor has bought into in three years. The announcement does not use the words drug purchasing, formulary, pathway or GPO.
This piece asks five questions. Anything labeled "Our read" is our opinion, not a sourced fact.
- What is Cencora actually buying?
- Is this one deal or a pattern?
- What does Cencora's own filing say about where its revenue comes from?
- Who chooses the product once the distributor owns the practice?
- What does this do to a GPO's leverage?

The record supplies the paper. People supply the meaning.
Public documents show what was decided and announced. They cannot show how a category actually gets bought, why a renewal went the way it did, or what the room sounded like when the call was made. That is what GPO Intel's Expert Network exists to capture.
If you have run a category, sat on a committee, carried a bag for a manufacturer, or worked the health-system side of these relationships, we ask short questions only people like you can answer. Asynchronous, answered from memory, screened before publishing, attributed on your terms (named, title only, or anonymous), and never about your current employer.
